DISHA

Although DISHA and its other groups had been organizing the tribals, dalits and other poor people of Gujarat and working on their issues and concerns through unions and issue-based organizations, it was felt necessary to work towards overall development of the tribals and the tribal region as a whole, and take-up all the issues in entirety relating to eastern tribal belt and the tribals. These included all aspects of their lives e.g. economic issues, social issues, education, traditions, culture, agriculture, health, children, etc. As a result Eklavya Sangathan was formed to work with this objective at the broader (state) level as well as regional levels.

Eklavya Sangathan was formed in 1992 and was registrered in 1993. Its work area covered entire Gujarat, especially the tribal regions and the tribal population. Eklavya Sangathan also formed regional level Eklavya Sangathan to concentrate DISHAís and its activities at that level. Eklavya Sangathan has been raising all important issues pertaining to the tribal communities and tribal region before the government and bureaucracy at state level for their solution. At times it has organized demonstrations, rallies, dharnas, conventions and other forms of protests at state level to pressurize the machinery on the issues it takes up before the government.
